On Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah), proponents of obscurantism chose to desecrate the Jewish cemetery of Volos with disgraceful and threatening messages aimed at inciting hatred against Jews once again.
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece condemns these vile acts in the strongest possible terms. We are confident that the State, the Church, the local authorities, and the society of Volos will not allow the values of democracy, culture, and humanism to be violated. They will not allow hatred and fanaticism to undermine the well-being and harmonious coexistence of all citizens of Volos, regardless of race, color, or religion.
We call upon the prosecuting authorities to take all necessary measures to apprehend those responsible for the vandalism and bring them to justice.
